Commencement Speech from Damion Lee '11

Damion Lee is a current Golden State Warrior and former STM Chancellor. In his time at St. Thomas More, Lee was a co-captain on the 2011 National Championship team, as well as a first-team selection for the NEPSAC AAA.  Damion was a Dean’s List student and faculty still comment on Damion’s leadership and work ethic both in and out of the classroom.

After graduating, he continued his education and playing career at Drexel University, where he was named the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Rookie of the Year. Lee continued trending upward in his second season, finishing the year averaging 17.1 points per game, the third highest mark in the CAA. In the beginning of Lee’s junior campaign, he suffered a torn ACL that forced him to redshirt and miss the entire year. He was a preseason selection for the CAA’s All-Conference team. In Lee’s final season at Drexel, he was a First Team All-Conference member and a part of the CAA’s All-Academic team. He finished just one vote shy of being the CAA Player of the Year. Lee then transferred to Louisville for his final year of college basketball, where he surpassed 2,000 career points and found himself among the 35-player watchlist for the Naismith Trophy.

Lee entered the NBA draft and ultimately went undrafted, but never quit on himself.  He found incredible success in the NBA’s G-League through hard work and determination. Eventually, he earned opportunities with both the Atlanta Hawks and the Golden State Warriors. On January 15, 2020, the Warriors announced that they had signed Lee to a multi-year contract.
