Chancellor Athlete of the Week
October 29- November 4
Jared Martin- Jared is a member of the Cross Country team. Cross Country participated in the SENE meet at St. Andrews. The meet consisted of over 60 runners and Jared placed in the top 15. This is his second top 15 finish. Jared placed 8th in the first meet of the year.
October 12- October 28
Dexter Lawson- Dexter has been a cornerstone to the football program all season. In the Chancellors big win against Royal Imperial Collegiate, Dexter did not dissapoint. He had 3 catches for 66 yards and 2 touchdowns in cluding an unbelievable over-the-shoulder one handed grab. On defense Dexter also had an interception.
October 15- October 21
Suk Moon Jang- Head Soccer Coach Don Handler has found a new keeper between the pipes, and he is playing like a mad man. In a difficult loss to Williams, Suk broke the school record for saves in a game. Diving all over the field and punching balls out of the box, Suk amassed 28 saves in the game!
October 8- October 14
Tre Williams- In the old adage "Defense Wins Championships", Tre Williams is a throwback defensive player. The Chancellors held strong with a 14-13 over Worcester Academy. Tre anchored the Defensive Line with 5 tackles including 4 for a loss and 3 sacks. He had two pivotal sacks in the fourth quarter when the game was on the line.
October 1- October 7
Tavori Atkins- Tavori really stood out in the football team's 48-0 win against Canterbury. Every time he touched the ball in the game, he scored a touchdown. He left everyone at the game in awe from his 26 yard touchdown run where he made 5 would be tacklers all miss on the same play. He also had numerous tackles on defense.
September 24- September 30
Miles Foerster- Miles had a great game against St. Joes Ottawa completing 68% of his passes for 249 yards and 4 touchdowns. He also had 9 carries for 50 yards and another touchdown. St. Thomas More came away with the victory in a 34-20 game. The junior captain quaterback has just under 800 passing yards and 9 touchdowns in his first three games as a chancellor. Football takes on the Canterbury school October 7th at 3:00pm.
April 24- April 29
Congratulations Hashem Abbas for earning Athlete of the Week honors. Since joining lax just a week ago, Hashem has scored 6 goals in 3 games and is 2nd on the team in goals scored. Hashem helped the Chancellors come from a 2-6 halftime deficit against Chase Collegiate last Saturday, tying the game at 7-7 with just over a minute left in the game. Unfortunately, the Chancellors were not able to hold off a last minute surge by Chase Collegiate and ended up falling 8-7. The Chancellors lax team will take on league rival, The Williams School, at home today- 4pm. Come out and support- it should be a great game!!!!
April 17- April 22
Congratulations Shawn Tafe for earning Athlete of the Week honors. Shawn has worked extremely hard in the weight room and has done a great job leading his group. Shawn has made some significant GAINS on all of his lifts and this is due to the dedication that he has put in. Shawn's weight room coach, former bodybuilder Mr. Schlags, has had nothing but great things to say about Shawn and the effort he has put in. Good job Shawn- keep up the good work!
April 10- April 15
Congrats to dual Athlete of the Week recipients Keyin Ding and Solomon Snow. Keyin recently competed in the Xi Kou Half Marathon on March 19 in Ning Bo, China. With his family watching, Keyin completed the 13.1 mile race in 2 hours and 5 minutes, 5 minutes better than his previous best. When asked what prompted him to participate in the event Keyin said “I had nothing else to do over break so I signed up.” He plans to run in his first full marathon, the North Face Endurance Challenge, in Washington, DC on April 30.
Junior, Solomon Snow is a member of the cycling team. Solomon has earned much praise from Ms. Hanrahan who when asked about Solomon's cycling effort simply said, "he's killing it". Great job Keyin and Solomon- keep up the good work!!

Congratulations to senior lacrosse player and captain, Justice Ford, for earning Athlete of the Week honors for the week of April 3-8. Justice scored a goal for the Chancellors in their tough loss to St. Andrew's School last Wednesday. Justice and the Chancellors are on the road again today at 4pm as they take on league rival The Williams School.
February 13- February 17
Congratulations to Senri Suzuki for earning Athlete of the Week honors. Senri led the Chancellors 3rdsBB to an amazing victory over powerful Portsmouth Abbey with 14 points and stingy defense. Great job Senri- keep up the good work!
January 9- January 14
Devin Rickerson has earned Athlete of the Week honors for his performance against Rocky Hill School last Monday. Devin helped lead the varsity basketball team to victory on the road against a tough Rocky Hill opponent with 29 points. Keep up the good work, Devin!
December 5- December 10
Congratulations are in order for JV basketball player, Johnny Mandel. Johnny helped carry STM to victory against Oxford Academy last week, scoring a double-double off of the bench. Coach Hastings also exclaimed that Johnny has been a leader on the team. Keep up the good work, Johnny!
November 7 - November 12
Congratulations DaSean Allison for earning Athlete of the Week honors. DaSean competed as the sole runner from STM in the NEPSTA Division IV Cross Country Championship at Hyde, Maine this past weekend. DaSean blazed through the 5k course in 17 minutes and 57 seconds to finish 7th out of of 198 runners from all over New England. Great work, DaSean!
October 31- November 5
Congratulations Mychai Hughley-Sebastian for his tough performance in the cross country SENE Championship. Mychai showed grit by competing with two bad knees on a notoriously tough and dangerous course. Great job Mychai, we all commend your effort.
October 24-October 29
Congrats to varsity soccer star Tommy Liu for earning Athlete of the Week honors. Tommy was a strong force in the Chancellors soccer match against The Williams School that ended in a 1-1 tie. The varsity coaches exclaimed that Tommy always works hard in practice and the the games. He is one of the Chancellors toughest central defenders. Keep up the good work, Tommy!
October 10- October 17
Over Long Weekend, Keyin Ding joined 11,135 other runners to cover 13.1 miles (21.1 kilometers) in the Staten Island Half Marathon. It was a cold and rainy Sunday morning, but Keyin completed the race in 2 hours, 9 minutes, and 57 seconds!! This is really impressive! WAY TO GO!!!
October 3- October 8
Rodney Atkins has earned Athlete of the Week honors for his performance in the Chancellor's football game this past weekend (10/8). In the Chancellors loss to Canterbury School, the Junior Quarterback threw for 301 yards and 3 touchdowns including a 99 yard touchdown pass to Justin Williams. Congratulations, Rodney!!
September 26- October 1
Cross Training members ,Taedae Kim and Ryusei Yamashita have been named Co-Athlete's of the Week. Mr. Harkins and Mr. Gerkins have been singing their praises of these two young men from the Oakdale mountaintops due to their effort day-in and day-out in Cross Training. Congratulations to these two great young men. Keep up the good work!

Postgraduate football player Juwon Grant has earned Athlete of the Week honors for his performance in the Chancellor's win last Saturday against Thayer Academy. Juwon Grant, who is also a captain, threw for over 150 yards and 2 touchdown passes and added in a rushing TD.
April 25- April 30
Senior tennis player Ryan Gakuba has earned Athlete of the Week for his performance in last week's match against Oxford Academy. Ryan came back from an 0-4 deficit to defeat his opponent and help lift the Chancellors to victory.
April 18 - April 23
Congratulations to Junior tennis player, Keyin Ding for his effort in last week's tennis matches. Keyin along with his partner Truong Nguyen won a doubles match against the very formidable Rocky Hill last week. Keyin also helped his team against Marianapolis Prep by competing in a singles and a doubles match.
March 7- March 12
Congratulations PG bball player Julian Batts for being named Athlete of the Week. Julian showed toughness and grit as he returned from injury to help lead the Chancellor's throughout the NEPSAC and National Prep Championship playoffs including a game winning shot that defeated rival Putnam Science Academy and put STM in the national championship game. Aside from his game winning shot, Julien added 6 points, 6 assists and 2 rebounds against Putnam Science Academy.
February 29- March 5
Athlete of the week goes to Rion Hironori for his outstanding performances last week. Against Grove school last Tuesday, he scored 20 points. During the JV tournament this weekend, he scored a total of 22 points to help place JV in second. His hard work was recognized and he made the All-Tournament Team. Rion’s dedication and heart has helped the JV team all season.
February 22- February 27
Congratulations to thirds basketball player Matt Greene for earning Athlete of the Week for the week of Feb 22- Feb 27th. In the Chancellor's last game of the season against Hyde School, Matt recorded a double-double with 10 points and 10 boards.
February 8- February 12
Mr. Will Huntington has earned AOW honors. Mr. Huntington was a staple in the STM weight room. Not only did Mr. H. help to improve students' physical health, he also donated several pieces of equipment to the weight room, paying out of his own pocket. Mr. Huntington touched the lives of many students and faculty and he will live on through them as well as countless other fitness enthusiast, friends and family.
February 1- February 6
Taedae Kim had an awesome match at the Middletown Dojo last week, winning it with the only score of the match as time ran out. Taedae has worked hard as an experienced veteran of the STM Judo team. He has not only continually improved his own talents but has also been helpful in coaching up his lesser-experienced teammates.
January 18- January 23
Senior varsity basketball captain, Juwon Grant, has earned Athlete of the Week honors for the week of January 18th through the 23rd. Juwon lead the Chancellors in scoring for all 3 of the their' games, dropping 17 on Upper Room Christian, 20 on Rectory School, and 12 points in only 16 minutes against New Testament Baptist School.Come check out Juwon and the rest of the Chancellors' varsity basketball team today (Tuesday) as they take on league-rival, Providence Country Day at 5:30
January 11- January 16
Senior, Yichao Wang has earned Athlete of the Week honors for the week of January 11th through 16th. Yichao, who is a member of the Weight Training Club, has worked hard day in and day out in the weight room. Yichao can be seen in the weight room daily putting in maximum effort on the cardio machines and the weights and has had great results!!! Congratulations Yichao, keep up the good work!!!
January 4- January 9
Athlete of the week goes to Nijha Cooper for his excellent play against Fisher's Island and Hyde last week. His passion and dedication showed in the JV Boys' wins. Nijha scored 12 points against Hyde and 10 against Fisher's Island. His levelheadedness helped invigorate the team in their come-from-behind win on Friday night.
December 7- December 12
Varsity basketball player Hashem Abbas has the honor of being named Athlete of the Week. Hashem, a junior in HS, has recorded a double-double in each of the Chancellor's first 4 games helping them to a 4-0 start. Hashem had 19 points and 13 rebounds against Northfield Mount Hermon, 24 points and 13 rebounds against Wheeler, and 11 points and 8 rebounds against league rival, Hyde School.
November 16- November 21
Postgraduate basketball player, Omari Spellman has earned Athlete of the Week honors for the week of November 16th through the 21st. In the Chancellor's first game of the season against Rise Academy, Omari led his team in scoring with 24 points while grabbing 6 boards. In the Prep School Showcase, Omari chipped in 18 points and 6 boards against IMG Academy and added another 26 points and 10 rebounds in the Chancellor's win over Fork Union. Congratulations Omari.
November 8- November 14
Gilberto Torres has been named Athlete of the Week by the Athletic Department for his standout performance in last Saturday's football game against Hopkins School. GIlberto rushed 18 times, amassing 178 yards on the ground and 3 touchdowns. Defensively, Gilberto added another 5 tackles for the Chancellors who won 42-9 in their last game of

Postgraduate football player Walter Crain has earned Athlete of the Week honors for the week of November 2nd through November 7th. Walter had a breakout game last Saturday against Wilbraham Monson, catching 8 passes for 111 yards and a touchdown. Walter looks to lead the Chancellor football team in their last game this Saturday at 2:00pm at Lambeau Field (home). Congrats Walter!

Postgraduate quarterback Rob Madison has earned Athlete of the Week honors for his gutsy performance in the Chancellor's football game against Cheshire Academy this past weekend. Rob kept the outnumbered Chancellors in the game, throwing for over 200 yards including a 17 yard touchdown pass to Juwon Grant.
October 19- October 24
Congratulations to Co-Athletes of the Week, Will Lampley and Andrew Lara. Sophomore cross country runner Will Lampley had what his coaches are calling an "amazing finish" in last Saturday's STM Cross Country Invitational. Will out-sprinted a Rocky Hill runner who was more than 20 yards ahead of him to finish the 3 mile course in an astonishing 26 minutes and 25 seconds, his best time to date.
Postgraduate football player Andrew Lara's courageous play helped lift his team over Tabor Academy in Saturday's Homecoming matchup. Andrew led the Chancellors in tackling, recording 8 solo tackles and assisted on several more uplifting the already stingy defense holding Tabor to 0 points. Along with some big hits on special teams, Andrew had the Chancellors longest punt return of the season, taking a 4th quarter Tabor punt 58 yards before being taken down at the 2 yard line. Andrew's punt return sealed the victory for the Chancellors.

Congratulations to Ying Pei who was an outstanding player in the soccer losses last week. Ying Pei played in back to back games for both JV and Varsity soccer. His defensive efforts helped bolster STM's defense. Despite being sore, cleated, and knocked down, Ying Pei's hard work and dedication showed through. He displayed the class that everyone should try to achieve in the face of adversity.
September 28-October 3
T-More would like to honor varsity soccer player and captain Bo Major for his standout performance in the team's game against Hyde School. Bo, described as a "warrior" by his coaches, had several vital interceptions and headers during the Chancellors hard fought loss to Hyde. Bo's performance drew praise from Hyde's coaches who commended him for his heart and commitment. This is Bo's second time receiving Athlete of the Week honors. Keep up the good work, Bo!
Congratulations to football player Delton Rogers for being picked as the St. Thomas More Athlete of the Week. In the Chancellor's first game, Delton recorded 4 sacks, 2 forced fumbles, and a safety in the teams 33-0 victory over Capital Prep Harbor School.
Congratulations to Sophomore Cross Country star, Sakye Reels for his standout performance in the Williams School Fun Run. Sakye finished the grueling course 6th out of over 80 runners from around New England.
Congratulations Luis Constantino for his outstanding performance in this past Saturday's Track and Field Meet. Luis finished first place overall in the discuss (122 feet) and shot put (37 Feet) amongst 4 different teams and many competitors. He also finished first place in the discus in the Chancellor's first track meet against Hyde, CT/ Hyde, ME/ Marianapolis Prep. Luis is on pace to beat his own school record of 135 feet in the discus.
April 13- 18
Congratulations to Destin Rodriguez for his performance in last weeks baseball game against Grove School. Destin was the closing pitcher and struck out two batters in his debut pitching performance. Destin also added some great plays in the field.
March 30- April 2
Congratulations to junior lacrosse player, Adam Brown-Bryant. Adam scored 2 goals and added an assist in the Chancellors first game against high-powered Cheshire Academy. Adam and the Chancellors lacrosse team will take on Chase Collegiate here at STM at 4:00.
Congratulations to dual Athletes of the Week winners Hao Cheng and Nijha Cooper for their performance in the Shoreline Basketball Tournament this past weekend. Hao Cheng had 12 points and 4 assists a game while Cooper added another 14 points with 5 boards in the Chancellors two contests. The Chancellors took 2nd place in the Shoreline Basketball Tournament. Congrats!
Congratulations to Gonzalo Devia for earning Athlete of the Week honors. Gonzalo has been working very hard in weight training and has beat his max weight on all of his major lifts. Gonzalo has been packing on the muscle and looks to continue to do so, even during the upcoming track season.
Congratulations to Chengzhi Yong for being voted as Athlete of the Week by the STM coaches. Chengzhi scored a game high 16 points in the 3rd's basketball win against Williams JV, knocking down 3 from downtown. In Saturday's tough loss to Portsmouth Abbey, Chengzhi led the Chancellors with 10 points.
Congratulations to Christian Vital for being voted on by the coaches as Athlete of the Week. Christian had a big steal in the final minutes of the Chancellor's home game against Putnam Science to help seal the victory. Christian finished the game with 8 points and 2 rebounds. Christian also had 14 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 assists against Mount Zion and added another 14 points, 9 rebounds, and 4 assists in STM's victory over Montmorency.
Congratulations to postgraduate basketball player Ryan Funk for being named Athlete of the Week. In the Chancellor's second win of the season, Ryan was 6 of 9 from the arch scoring a total of 24 points. Ryan also added 5 rebounds in the Chancellors 80-52 win over Jean-de-Brebauf.

Congratulations go out to D'Vonne Trumbo on his standout performance in the 1st St. Thomas More Cross Country Invitational.Despite the cold and rain, D'Vonne came in 1st place overall and set a new course record with a time of 17:55. D'Vonne also placed 4th at the SENE Championships Friday afternoon.
Despite the rain and cold, Sakye Reels-Felder had a phenomenal showing at the St. Andrew’s Invitational on Wednesday October 22nd. Not only did he start out strong but, Reels-Felder left many coaches and spectators speechless during the last one-hundred yards of the race. Reels-Felder who finished with a time of 21:10 managed to sprint past 5 other top finishers in the last stretch and he landed 36th place out of 118 runners! Look out for another great showing by Reels-Felder during this weekend’s double header!
Congratulations to Yuga Nakai on his hard work in Cross Training. Mr. Ladd and Mr. Mortali have been ranting and raving about the "GAINS" that Yuga has made. When you see Yuga around campus, be sure to congratulate him on a job well-done. Keep up the good work, Yuga!
Congratulations to Sophomore QB, Jahkari Grant for his standout performance in Varsity Football's tough loss to Canterbury School. Jahkari completed 11 out of 19 passes for 374 yards and 2 touchdowns.

Congratulations to D'Vonne Trumbo for his great running performance against Putnam Science Academy. D'vonne finished first out of 26 runners and set a meet record in the Chancellor's first home Cross Country meet.
Congratulations to Wide Receiver/ Cornerback, Dre Smalls for his standout performance in this past weekend's football game against Westminster. Dre finished the game with 8 catches for 156 yards and a touchdown in a tough loss. He also had a strong performance defensively, breaking up multiple Westminster passes and not allowing a single catch to his side.
Congratulations to Ippei Tajima for being named as the Chancellor's Athlete of the Week. Ippei arrived on campus late but stepped right up and ran well at the Chancellor's first Cross Country meet Wednesday at Providence Country Day. He was the first STM runner to cross the finish line and helped cheer his team on.
Congratulations to Bo Major on his strong performance in Varsity Soccer's match against high-powered Wheeler. Bo played well for the Chancellors at both goalie and on defense. Bo had 7 saves for the Chancellors in a tough loss.
