St. Thomas More School of Oakdale, CT and the Science and Technology Magnet School of Southeastern CT participated in the 2011 First Robotics Competition in the Connecticut Convention Center representing New London County. Our first robotics team members are Hogan Park, Hanlin Mei, Leo Peng, Er'Wang Nie, Peter Krulasik, and Hermes Kola Alagbada. Our team had six weeks to design and build a robot to specifications and be able to place inflatable tubes on high pegs. The First Robotics competition's main goal is to inspire an appreciation of science and technology in our students. They also learned about programming, engineering, the use of power tools, how to solve problems, self-confidence, and most importantly how to work as a team. Our team performed so well that it was chosen for an alliance by a highly seeded team. This collaboration made us realize our robot worked better than we ever expected. We are very proud of our students' accomplishments and the fact that we are already invited to attend next year’s competition. .
