During the summer months, Alex will attend the University of Virginia where he will go through extensive, accelerated courses allowing him to earn his Masters Degree in Athletic Administration in only two years. St. Thomas More School is truly happy to have him on board!

Charles Parker, '04

He also earned a Minor in Athletic Coaching.  During his tenure at Millersville, Charles started all four years where he piled on the accolades.  Charles won Freshman of the Year in his inaugural season, was All-Conference each year he was at Millersville and was Player of the Year during his Junior & Senior campaigns.  Charles was named to the Division 2 All-American Team both his Junior & Senior seasons as well. Charles ended up just shy of the 2,000 Career Point mark with 1,949 points.  He was also 2nd All-Time School Steals leader and 4th All-Time in Assists.  If that weren’t enough, he also led the Marauders to one Conference Title and 3 NCAA Division 2 National Tournament appearances, twice making it to the sweet sixteen.  An interesting note to point out, Reggie Bates, ’04 transferred from Howard University and the former STM teammates played side by side for Charles’ last two seasons.

During Parker’s first year out of college, he went on to play for the Los Angeles Defenders in the NBA’s Developmental League (D-League) where he started 15 games on the season.  Charles is now an Assistant Coach for the Millersville Marauder Basketball team and will be traveling to Europe this summer to tryout for various teams in an attempt to continue his successful basketball career.

This is the 3rd time he has returned to STM in the summer to work the camp. Pearce intends to graduate from the University of San Francisco in 2012 and would ultimately like to return to the shores of Gardner Lake as a teacher, preferably in the history department.

Good luck achieving your dreams, Pearce!

Mark McAndrew, '72

4/23/2009

"As a post-graduate I was ranked number two in my class and received over forty college basketball scholarship offers. The year at STM proved to be a defining year in my life. I graduated from STM and became the captain of the Providence College basketball team in 1976 and played professional basketball in Europe for three years. I returned home and earned an MBA from Providence College in 1984."

"Every child will mature differently and sometimes the best environment is one with caring structure, proper discipline and a true desire to see the person reach their full potential. St. Thomas More strives to motivate, nurture, and strengthen the intellectual, moral, physical and social development of every student."

Mazen Iskandar, '83

6/16/09

Mazen Iskandar '83 made it a special point to visit the STM campus while traveling through Connecticut on his way to Boston.  He was amazed by the changes to campus since his graduation 25 years ago, marveling at Our Lady's Chapel and the dining hall.

Mazen arrived on campus from his native Lebanon in 1981. He formed some life long friendships here and it still very good friends with Nick Saifan '84. Following his graduation from STM, he attended UMASS and went on to success in various entrepreneurial endeavors. He is currently a franchise owner of Edible Arrangements in Alexandria, Virginia.

While on campus Mazen was thrilled to be able to catch up with former teacher Jere Quinn. The two spent a great deal of time reminiscing about the early ‘80's at STM. Mazen shared some funny stories and truly enjoyed his visit. We look forward to his return!

E.J. Gentile, '94

6/16/09

E.J. Gentile '94 is currently an Emmy Award winning producer for the YES Network, headquartered in Stamford, Connecticut. YES is the Yankees Entertainment and Sports cable network which features NY Yankees games, New Jersey Nets game, collegiate sports and classic footage. The channel is available in Connecticut and New York, as well as parts of New Jersey and Pennsylvania.

E.J. gained entry into the exciting world of television sports through what he describes as "the lowest possible position to start at."

E.J.'s foray into TV sports at YES involved the somewhat mundane but necessary job of logging overnight satellite feeds. This STM and Quinnipiac grad had higher ambitions, and through good old-fashioned tenacity and hard work, he rose through the ranks. While his degree in Broadcast Journalism certainly opened doors, it was his persistence and ambition that led him to his current role as a producer. Regarding his humble beginnings, E.J. admits "it's a shakedown process. It's almost like a fraternity initiation." He was able to jockey himself into the features department by being available "all the time." In the world of 24-hour entertainment, this meant working as a production assistant, doing virtually all that was asked of him, and keeping odd hours. Often, he would spend an entire day at the network. "TV is not for everyone," E.J. says.

He's carved a niche out for himself at YES, where he does a tremendous amount of behind-the-scenes work on aired footage for Yankee pre and post game shows and other programs. He sets the stages for remote broadcasts, conducts key interviews, and makes sure all variables are in place for a successful production. His hard work and ambition have paid off, as E.J. was presented with two Emmys in the spring of 2008 by the New York Chapter of the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. He was honored as a feature producer of sports programming for the New York Yankees pre and post-game shows, and as an associate producer of advanced sports media for yesnetwork.com. E.J.'s job has also allowed him to meet some of the biggest names in professional sports. One of the highlights of his career came as the result of interviewing his childhood hero, Don Mattingly.

It's been a great ride for E.J., who resides in Cos Cob, Connecticut with his fiancée Bibi and their dogs, Tessa and Chloe.
