Annual Spelling Bee Renamed

10/12/09

An October tradition on campus has taken on a new dimension.  Several years ago, the late Richard T. Schnaidt began holding a spelling bee for students prior to the Columbus Day weekend.  This year, Headmaster James F. Hanrahan, Jr. ’72 declared the event “The Richard T. Schnaidt Memorial Spelling Bee,” in honor of Mr. Schnaidt, who formerly chaired the English Department.

Representatives from each class took to the podium in Our Lady’s Chapel as members of the English Department announced each spelling word.  The effort and enthusiasm put forth by all participants made for a fitting tribute to a special teacher and colleague.
